Over the last few years, I've taken up doing some art, primarily painting. I usually paint plen aire or from photographs, and try to go to Michigan to my sister's house, where we have "paint ins" in her husband's shop, or outside in the imminently paintable landscapes of northwest lower Michigan. I have a studio in the Charlotte Art League where I paint regularly now, and my ekphrastic show "Painting Words" was my featured artist work in March/April, 2023.
The paintings are mostly oil on canvas or board, with a few acrylic and water colors thrown in for good measure. Some of the works have appeared in shows at the Ashe County Arts Council, the Oliver Art Center, and the Florence Thomas Art School.
My artistic philiosphy is this: I only do art that I enjoy. And, I am not afraid to throw things away. I do not, under any circumstances take myself seriously. Doing art frees up space in my head, and I am sure it helps me to focus on other non-art tasks, especially writing.
